Virtual Install Disk

This option controls the Virtual Install Disk. The Virtual Install Disk may contain drivers specific to
the server that an operating system may use using installation. When the Virtual Install Disk option
is enabled, Microsoft Windows Server automatically locates required drivers and installs them,
eliminating the need for user intervention and the requirement that a driver be present on external
media during OS installation. In some cases, the Virtual Install Disk remains visible from the installed
OS as a read only drive. During manual installations using Intelligent Provisioning, this feature is
automatically enabled.

To further optimize the system, HP recommends updating boot drivers to the latest versions after
the OS installation.

Options include:

Enabled—This feature operates differently in Gen8 and G7 environments:

Gen8 environments: Makes visible a read-only virtual disk (256MB)

G7 environments: Makes visible a read-only virtual floppy (1.44MB)

Disabled (default)

NOTE:

When Intelligent Provisioning software is updated, this Virtual Install Disk is automatically

updated.
