For Linux, ensure that the target server can be contacted through SSH and that the scp
command is available to securely send files to the target server.

Ensure the firewall ports are open on any routers in the network. For more information, see

“Network ports used by HP SUM” (page 64)

The Symantec Endpoint Protection product blocks HP SUM ability to communicate with remote
targets if the Network Threat Analysis feature is enabled. Disable this feature while HP SUM
is in use on the workstation.

Examine the trace directories for connection problems. For more information, see

“Collecting

trace directories” (page 66)

Ensure the server has a valid serial number.

HP SUM stalls during discovery

Solution: If the system is connected to external storage, try disconnecting the external storage.

If discovering a VMware ESXi 5.0 or later server, make sure you have installed the HP Management
WBEM Providers. You can download the HP Management WBEM Providers in the HP ESXi Offline
Bundle at

Solution: Reconfigure the firewall settings on the host to recover Linux remote functionality.

Configuring firewall settings

By default, the target firewall is enabled in Linux.

To enable remote Linux functionality, the target and host firewall must be disabled or reconfigured
to allow IP traffic through the ports needed by HP SUM to deploy firmware. For more information
about ports, see

“Network ports used by HP SUM” (page 64)
