Procedure 22 To create host groups and register hosts in host groups
1. Open the Create Host Groups window by doing one of the following:
•
In Remote Web Console, select General Tasks > Create Host Groups.
•
Select Actions > Port/Host Groups > Create Host Groups.
•
In the Storage Systems tree, click Ports/Hosts Groups. In the next window, select the Host
Groups tab, and then click Create Host Groups.
•
In the Storage Systems tree, expand the Ports/Hosts Groups node, and then select the
relevant port. In the next window, select the Host Groups tab, and then click Create Host
Groups.
2. In Host Group Name, type the host group name. You may find it convenient to name each
host group after the host platform.
3. Register hosts in a host group.
If the desired host has ever been connected via a cable to another port in the storage system:
1.
Select the desired host bus adapter from the Available Hosts list and then click Add.
2. To assign a nickname to the host bus adapter, select the host bus adapter and then click
Add New Host under the Available Hosts list.
The Add New Host dialog box opens. You cannot add a WWN to the host groups for
initiator or external ports.
3. In the Add New Host dialog box, type the nickname for Host Name, and then click OK.
Otherwise, if the desired host has never been connected via a cable to any port in the storage
system:
1.
Click Add New Host under the Available Hosts list.
The Add New Host dialog box opens. You cannot add a WWN to the host groups for
initiator or external ports.
2. In HBA WWN, type the WWN. If you are unsure of the WWNs of your host bus adapters,
see
“Host mode options” (page 135) .
3. If necessary, in Host Name, type a nickname for the host bus adapter.
4. Click OK to close the Add New Host dialog box.
5. Select the desired host bus adapter from the Available Hosts list, select the port to which
you register the host from the Available Ports list, and then click Add.
4. Select a host mode from the Host Mode list. When selecting a host mode, consider the platform
and some other factors (see
“Host modes for host groups” (page 134) for details).
5. If necessary, click Option and then select host mode options. The dialog box expands to
display the list of host mode options. The Mode No. column indicates option numbers. Select
an option you want to specify, and then click Enable.
6. Click Finish.
To continue to add LU paths, click Next see “Defining LU paths” (page 141) .
7. In the Confirm window, confirm the settings, in Task Name type a unique name for this task
or accept the default, and then click Apply.
If Go to tasks window for status is checked, the Tasks window opens.
Configuring LU paths
When provisioning your storage system, and after configuring ports, hosts, and host groups, you
must configure fibre channel LU paths. LUN Manager is required for these tasks. You can also
modify the LU paths configuration when the system is in operation.
