Server Relationships

The following defines the roles, relationships, and restrictions between the server types:

Backup Server

The backup server plays a central control point for the Recovery Manager that controls and manages
the backup and restore on different mailbox/Exchange servers.

NOTE:

If you are using third-party software (such as NetBackup or Data Protector or Backup Exec)
in the backup environment, you must install the backup client or master on the backup server.

When specifying the verification server with the -vs option (see

“HpRmCli Exch backup”

(page 66)

) for backups, you must install the Recovery Manager Backup Server component on

the server.

Remote Copy Backup Server

Depending on the configuration, the Remote Copy backup servers manage synchronous and
asynchronous periodic Remote Copy virtual copies.

Mailbox Servers (for Exchange 2010/ Exchange 2013)

Mailbox servers can be standalone servers, or they can be configured as a member of a DAG.

Exchange Servers (For Exchange 2007)

The Exchange Servers can be standalone servers or cluster virtual servers.
