With Fibre Channel connections, you can use the switches as ordinary switch connections. No
special settings are required for the HP XP P9500.

Direct connections up to 10 km with single-mode longwave Fibre Channel interface cables are
supported. Link speed determines the maximum distance you can transfer data and still achieve
good performance. The following table shows maximum distances at which performance is
maintained per link speed, over single-mode longwave Fibre Channel.

Continuous Access Synchronous connections.

Supported data path configurations

Three Fibre Channel configurations are supported for Continuous Access Synchronous:

“Direct connection” (page 34)

“Switch connection” (page 34)

“Extender connection” (page 35)

LUN Manager is used to set port topology.

Direct connection

The following figure shows a direct connection, in which two devices are connected directly
together.

Set port topology to: Fab off, FC-AL.

Switch connection

The following figure shows a switch connection, in which up to three optical fibre cables are
connected using switches. Two switches can be used.
