5 Flowchart

This chapter describes the flowchart of the External Storage operations.

Overview of operations to make external volumes usable from a host

The following flowchart illustrates External Storage operations that make external volumes usable
from a host.

Figure 20 Making external volumes usable from a host

The procedure for making the external volumes usable from a host follows:
1.

Prepare a volume in the external storage system.

2.

Set the port and system parameters for the external storage system.

For the procedure, see the documentation of your external storage system.

3.

Start Remote Web Console and set the attribute of the port connecting the external storage
system to External in the Port Operation window of External Storage.

4.

Map the external volume to the internal volume.

5.

Perform the following operation according to the emulation type that you set for mapping.

For mainframe emulation, format the volume or perform the Write to Control Blocks
operation using Virtual LVI (see the HP P9000 Provisioning for Mainframe Systems User
Guide
).

For open-system emulation, define LU paths to a host using LUN Manager (see the HP
P9000 Provisioning for Open Systems User Guide
).

CAUTION:

Even if you connect the external storage system to the local storage system (P9500

storage system), the external storage system cannot recognize the local storage system. To make
the external storage system recognize the local storage system as a host, perform the Discover
External Target Ports operation on the port connected to the external storage system from the local
storage system. However, if 15 minutes or more lapse without mapping the path after the Discover
External Target Ports operation is performed, the external storage system might not be able to
recognize the local storage system again.
