6 Performing External Storage operations

This chapter explains how to set the external volume using External Storage.

Setting ports

Setting ports of external storage systems

This section describes the procedure for setting the ports of the external storage system. For detailed
information, see the documentation for the external storage system you use.

To set the port of the external storage system:

1.

Set the topology information according to the configuration of the connection (fabric or loop).

2.

According to the configuration, set the data transfer speed.

3.

Set the system parameters (see

“Connecting external storage systems” (page 69)

).

4.

Define LUNs and present them on the port connected to the local storage system.

Setting port attribute for local storage system

The port attribute used for External Storage must be set on the external port.

To set the port attribute to the external port:

1.

Click Ports/Host Groups in the Storage Systems tree.

2.

Select the Ports tab.

3.

Select the desired port.

4.

On the menu bar, click Actions, Ports/Host Groups, and then Edit Ports. The Edit Ports window
opens.

5.

Select External in the Port Attribute box.

See the HP P9000 Provisioning for Open Systems User Guide about the settings other than
Port Attribute.

6.

Click Finish to display the Confirm window.

7.

Confirm the settings and enter the task name in the Task Name box.

8.

Click Apply in the Confirm window.

Mapping an external volume

After setting the attribute of the port used for External Storage to the external port, you can map
the external volume as an internal volume.

NOTE:

Before you map the external volume, check whether any application (for example, RAID

Manager) is using the command device. If there is, stop the application.

To map the external volume:

1.

In Remote Web Console, select Add External Volumes from the General Tasks menu and
display the Add External Volumes window.

2.

To create a new path group and add external volumes, select By New External Path Group
and click Create External Path Group , and then create a path group. For more informations
about creating a path group, see

“Create new path group and configure external paths”

(page 43)

.

3.

To add external volumes to the existing external path group, select By Existing External Path
Group, and select the desired path group from the Available External Path Groups list.

4.

Click Next.
