However, a volume with the S-VOL Disable attribute cannot be used as a Business Copy secondary
volume.

The only Business Copy operation you can perform on the Business Copy secondary volume
that has the S-VOL Disable attribute is the Delete operation.
•
All operations can be performed on Business Copy primary volume that have the S-VOL Disable
attribute.
Thin Provisioning and Smart Tiers
Thin Provisioning (THP) and Smart Tiers (Smart) volumes can be used with Business Copy primary
volumes and secondary volumes. THP and Smart volumes can also be used with BC reserved
volumes. The following restrictions apply:
•
THP and Smart volumes should be shared with both the BC primary and secondary volumes,
rather than one or the other.
•
If an THP or Smart volume is shared with only the primary volume, or only the secondary
volume, the Quick Restore operation cannot be performed. To perform the Quick Restore,
both primary and secondary volumes must be shared with THP or Smart volumes.
Also, sharing an THP or Smart volume with only the secondary volume is not recommended
for the Quick Restore because the secondary volume consumes the same amount of the pool
capacity as the primary volume.

You cannot perform BC pair operations while doing the following:

The maximum size of an THP or Smart volume that can be used as a Business Copy primary
volume, secondary volume, and reserve volume is 4 TB (4398046511104 bytes).
CAUTION: When you want to create a 4TB primary, secondary, or reserve volume, do not
use the terabyte specification; instead use the block specification only. TB, GB, or MB
specifications cannot be used for Business Copy volumes.
The block-size equivalent to 4 TB is 8589934592 blocks.
External Storage Access Manager
The Business Copy primary volume can be shared with the External Storage Access Manager
(ESAM) secondary volume. However, other ESAM volumes cannot be shared.
•
The ESAM primary volume cannot be shared with Business Copy.
•
The ESAM quorum disk cannot be shared with Business Copy.
Business Copy pair operations are limited according to the ESAM pair status. The following table
shows the pair operations allowed.
