Troubleshooting the consistency group split operation

If the consistency group split function fails, note the following.

Status for pairs in the consistency group becomes PSUE.

When the host server is down or has failed, you may define a consistency group with no
Business Copy (BC) pairs. If you execute the paircreate command with the consistency group
split option under such a condition, the paircreate command might be rejected.

In this case, proceed as follows:
1.

Locate a consistency group number that is not used by any pairs on the Pair Operation
window by sorting the CTG column.

2.

Specify that consistency group number explicitly, and execute the paircreate command
with the consistency group split option using RAID Manager on the host server.

When using a Continuous Access Journal (Cnt Ac-J) S-VOL as a BC primary volume, if the
status of some pairs belonging to a consistency group cannot be changed, the Pairsplit
command can end abnormally with the error code EX_EWSTOT. This error indicates that a
timeout has occurred. Probable reasons why the pair status cannot be changed are the
following:

The Cnt Ac-J pair belongs to a consistency group, and the primary and secondary volumes
have the same contents. The journal volumes for this pair are full.

The BC license is invalid.

The BC pair volumes are blocked.

The BC pair is in a status that does not allow the pairsplit operation. See

“Monitoring

pair activity, status ” (page 49)

.

The BC pair is a part of cascaded pairs. The other pairs in the cascaded pairs are in a
status that does not allow the pairsplit operation. See

“Status for L1, L2 pairs and

operations permitted ” (page 51)

.

A BC pair volume is also used in a Continuous Access Synchronous (Cnt Ac-S) or Cnt
Ac-J pair. The Cnt Ac-S or Cnt Ac-J pair is in a status that does not allow the pairsplit
operation.

After these factors are removed, perform the pairresync operation, and execute the Pairsplit
command.
