Reinstalling

When the notebook computer does not work properly,
you can reinstall the hard disk using the DVD-ROM
drive and “Product recovery CD” supplied with the
notebook computer.

You cannot use the supplied AC adapter when
reinstalling.

Turn off the notebook computer.

Connect the AC adapter to the notebook computer
and an AC outlet.

Insert the PC card into the PC card slot on the
notebook computer with the “SONY“ logo side
facing up.

Eject the disc tray using the supplied manual eject
pin and place the “Product recovery CD” in the
disc tray.

For details on inserting a disc or using the manual
eject pin, see “Inserting a disc” on page 17 and
“When the disc tray does not eject” on page 18.

Turn on the notebook computer.

The POWER indicator on the DVD-ROM drive
flashes green when the notebook computer detects
the drive.

Reinstall the notebook computer by following the
procedure described in the operating instructions
for the notebook computer.

Notes
• You cannot reinstall the

computer with the
supplied AC adapter
connected to the DVD-
ROM drive.
Reinstalling can be
done in the 16-bit mode
(electric power from the
connected notebook
computer) only.

• Make sure to use the

notebook computer’s
AC adapter when
reinstalling.
