Chapter 5
Running the CK49x Board in Standalone Mode
5.1 Introduction
The CK49x Evaluation System supports two methods of communicating with the CS4953x4 DSP on the
daughter card attached to the main board.
• Connect a PC to CK49x Evaluation System via USB cable – The USB connection supports
communication between DSP Composer on the user’s PC and the CK49x Evaluation System. See
Chapter 3,"Installation, Setup, and Running Application"
for how to use DSP Controller on the
CK49x
• Disconnect the USB cable – This action puts the CK49x Evaluation System in Standalone mode.
Standalone mode can be used to run a quick demo of the audio on the system without PC control
and to conduct a quick verification of the operation of the CK49x hardware.
The MCU on the CKCK49x board automatically switches between USB and Standalone operation based
on whether a USB connection is detected.
The CK49x MCU in Standalone mode is an independent host that controls the DSP. While in Standalone
mode, the MCU is responsible for system boot -up, run-time monitoring of DSP operations, and controlling
the user interface. The MCU has three operational modes:
• Status Display mode
• Volume Adjustment mode
• Set-up mode to select /control the features described in
for activation on the CK49x
Evaluation System.
Note:
Standalone code is currently supported only for DC49530,DC49531, DC497024
5.1.1 Standalone Mode Setup
Follow these steps to set up the CK49x Evaluation System in Standalone mode.
1. Connect the DSP daughter card to the CK49x main board.
2. Load the DSP with the Cirrus Licensed Technology Serial Flash Image. The CK49x Evaluation
System comes with the Cirrus Unlicensed Technology Serial Flash image that the Cirrus DSP uses to
operate. The unlicensed technology Flash image does not contain any third-party algorithms such as
PLIIx or Neo6.
To access the functionalities such as Surround, Virtualizer, and Bass Management, described
in this chapter, the user must load the Cirrus Licensed Technology Serial Flash Image. Refer
to Section 7.3.2.1 of the CS4953x4/CS4970x4 System Designer’s Guide, “Using the DSP
Condenser Wizard to Create a Serial Flash Image.” to program the DSP with the Cirrus
licensed technology Serial Flash Image.
3. Connect audio inputs (SPDIF, HDMI, and Analog Input) to the CK49x Evaluation System.
4. Connect powered speakers to the CK49x Evaluation System.
