Subjects Not Suitable for Autofocus

Autofcxîus may not work well in the following
instances, and manual focus will probably give
you better results:
A. Subjects with very glossy or shiny surfaces

(e.g. car exteriors)

B. Subjects with little or no reflection (e.g. dark

clothes, dark hair, water surface)

C. Scenes that cause a strong contrast

between right and left halves of the screen

D. More than one subject in viewfinder/different

distances

E. Subjects behind glass

N otes:

Be sure not to obscure autofocus window located

under the lens with your hand, fingers, etc. during
recording.

• Do not touch focusing ring during autofocus.
• The autofocus mechanism focuses subjects at a

distance of approximately 0.6-10 metres. For
more distant subjects, focus locks at infinity. To
shoot bright subjects at a distance of 10 metres
or more outdoors during daytime, the lens
aperture is small so accurate focus is easily
achieved. However, if conditions are cloudy or if
you are shooting night scenes, etc., use manual
focusing.

• If the camera is near other products that use

infrared beams (e.g. wireless controller for TV,
VCR, or another video camcorder), autofocus
may malfunction. Autofocus is turned off when
the camera receives signals from the wireless
controller.

• Shooting subjects in low-light conditions at a

distance of less than 1 metre in autofocus
mode may result in poor picture quality. To avoid
this use the VL-7 Battery Video Light.
