When battery pack is connected to the camera,
it will continue to discharge even when the
power is turned off, and this may cause it to
become overdischarged. Disconnect battery
pack from camera when storing.
When storing the battery pack for a long period
of time, choose a cool, chemically stable
location. Allow it to discharge completely by
connecting it to the camera and waiting until
OPERATE Indicator goes out (about 10
minutes after it begins to flash).
If battery pack has been stored for three
months or longer, a single recharging will not
be sufficient to restore it to full operability. In
such a case, completely recharge and
completely discharge battery pack 2 to 5 times.
This will restore it to its original capacity.
Terminology
Overcharging and overdischarging will cause
battery pack to function less effectively, and
shorten its life.
Overcharging:
Charging battery pack after it has already been
fully charged.
Overdischarging:
Continuing to discharge battery pack after its
voltage level has fallen below a specified level
(5.0 V for the nickel cadmium batteries used by
Canon 8mm video camcorders).
Charge memory:
When a nickel cadmium battery is discharged
only partially (not long enough for charge to cut
off automatically), and then recharged and
used again, continuous recording time
decreases. The battery pack will be temporarily
Incapable of discharging to final voltage level.
