3.4.3 SLIP Port Settings

Serial Line Internet Protocol (SLIP) mode runs point-to-point and does not display messages on-
screen. Only those IP packets addressed to the SLIP IP address receive a response. The SLIP IP
address must be on a different network than the Ethernet IP address. The SLIP subnet mask is
assumed from the Class type of the IP address and does not allow a default gateway. The SLIP IP
address is saved in non-volatile RAM.

To set up SLIP mode, see Figure 11 and Table 10 and follow these steps:

1. From the System menu, type

3

, SLIP Settings, and press <Enter>.

2. At the SLIP Port Settings menu, type

6

, SLIP IP Address, and press <Enter>.

3. At the prompt, enter the IP address, then type

Y

to confirm it and save it.

4. Set values for other parameters as needed; see Table 10.

When you start SLIP mode from your PC, the serial port runs in SLIP mode until it receives a series
of three carriage returns or you reset the SNMP module. For details, see Chapter 4.
