The other party complains that dirty
patterns or black lines appear on
their received document.
•The glass or rollers are dirty. Clean them (p. 111).
I cannot make an international fax
call. • Use the overseas transmission mode (p. 73).
•Add two pauses at the end of the telephone number (p. 43) or dial
manually.
Fax - receiving
Problem Cause & Remedy
1 cannot receive document. •The telephone line cord is connected to the EXT.L1 ONLY jack on
the unit. Connect to the L1/L2 or L2 jack (p. 25, 26).
1 cannot receive document
automatically. •The receive mode is set to the TEL mode. Set to the FAX ONLY.
•The time taken to answer a call is too long. Decrease the number
of rings (p. 81, 91).
The display shows “CONNECTING.”
but faxes are not received.
•The incoming call is not a fax. Change the receive mode to the
TEL mode.
The recording image is faint. •The sender transmitted a faint document. Ask them to transmit a
clearer copy of the document.
•The thermal head is dirty. Clean it (p. Ill).
The printing quality is poor. • Some paper has instructions recommending which side to print
on. Try turning the paper over. We recommend smooth paper
such as Hammermill® Jet Print for dearer printing.
A blank sheet is ejected after the
received document is printed out.
•The receiving reduction rate is not programmed correctly.
Program the proper rate (p. 92).

For LINE 1:
• If you want to set the FAX ONLY or TEL7FAX mode:
—Select the desired mode using feature #77 (p. 90), and
—Press (AUTO ANSWER] to turn on the AUTO ANSWER light.
