10. Next, you may need to manually install the driver for the USB-Blaster device. This is the driver

for the USB connection to the Shapeshifter module.

11. Connect a USB cable between your computer and the small board (Terasic DE0-Nano board) on

the rear of the Shapeshifter module. Note that the board on the Shapeshifter takes in a MINI-B

plug. You will need a USB cable with this type of connector. Once the USB connection has been

made, the blue LED on the back of the Shapeshifter module should light up. Some of the LEDs on

the front panel may light up as well.

12. If Windows indicates that it can’t find the driver for the USB device, then do the following (on

Windows 7):

a. Press the Start button and go to Devices and Printers

b. Right click USB-Blaster and select Properties

c. Select the Hardware-tab and again, select Properties

d. Select Change Settings go to the Driver-tab and select Update Driver

e. In the pop-up window, select Browse my computer for driver software

f. Under Search for driver software in this location copy/paste

C:\altera\13.1\qprogrammer\drivers\usb-blaster (Note that C:\altera is the default

install location and directory number will change if you install a different version.)

g. Click Next

13. Once the program and the drivers are all installed, run the standalone programmer. The Quartus

II 32-bit Programmer window will appear.

14. Make sure that the “Mode” tab in the top line of the Programmer window is set to “JTAG”. Click

on “Hardware Setup”. The “Hardware Setup” window will appear. Under “Available hardware
items” a line listing “USB-Blaster” should be present. Double-click on this line. The item
“Currently selected hardware:” should change to say “USB-Blaster. Close this window.
