* The identification number does not appear in the standby display. It appears when scanning documents,

operating System Monitor or Memory Reference, receiving faxes in Manual mode or memory, or after
transmission is completed.

Sending Problems

You can not send a fax.

The machine may have overheated.
• Unplug the machine and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Then plug in the machine and try sending again.

The machine may not be set for the type of telephone line in use (pulse/tone).
• Make sure the machine is set for the correct telephone line type. (

The document may not have been loaded.
• Remove the document, stack it if necessary, and place it on the platen glass or load it into the ADF correctly.

The one-touch speed dialling key or coded speed dialling code you entered may not be registered for the
feature you want to use.
• Check the one-touch speed dialling key or coded speed dialling code and make sure it is registered correctly.

You dialled or have been provided with an incorrect number.
• Dial the number again, or check that you have the correct number.

The other party’s fax machine may be out of paper.
• Call the other party and ask them to make sure paper is loaded in their fax machine.

There may be other documents being sent from memory.
• Allow time for those documents to finish sending.

An error may have occurred during sending.
• Print an ACTIVITY REPORT and check for an error. (

Cause

The one-touch speed dialling key or coded
speed dialling code you entered has not been
registered.

The machine received the fax in memory
because paper or toner ran out, a paper jam
occurred, or incorrect paper size was loaded.

When the machine sends or receives a fax, it
assigns an unique identification number
(nnnn).

Action

Register the one-touch speed dialling key or
coded speed dialling code. (

Load correct paper size in the cassette, replace
the cartridge, or clear the paper jam.
