• Stitch Length: L (coloured bar)

• Stitch Balance: To suit application or fabric

• General Purpose Needle Plate

Construct a purse in the usual way using pat
tern instruction, making sure top edge of purse
is finished.

1. Use hand basting or tailor’s chalk to mark

the stitching line approximately 2.5 to 5 cm

(1 to 2 inches) in from top edge of fabric.

2. Stitch along marked line using the ric-rac

stitch, placing fabric so that edge to be

finished is turned to the right.

3. Thread needle with a fine cord or ribbon or

several strands of sewing thread. Leaving a
5 to 7.5 cm tail (2 to 3 inches) of thread,
guide the needle between the ric-rac
stitching and the fabric until you have gone
completely around the top edge of the
purse.

• Cut cord or ribbon leaving desired amount

needed to create a drawstring effect.

4. Tie cord ends together.
