12.1 Resistive Fault Location (RFL) Testing
Resistive Fault Location (RFL) testing is a powerful measurement that is able to locate shorts between tip to
ring, tip to ground or ring to ground. These faults can be called shorts, grounds or crosses.
A short is when TIP is shorted to RING

A Cross or Battery Cross is when TIP or RING is shorted (typically by water or moisture) to a lead that
contains CO voltage. This is typically at the point where there is a faulty splice and moisture can easily enter
into the splice thus completing a current path.
