Removing and Replacing the Engine Oil

WHEN PERFORMING ANY MAINTENANCE, YOU MUST FIRST SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, ALLOW FIVE (5)
MINUTES FOR PARTS TO COOL AND DISCONNECT THE SPARK PLUG WIRE.

BE CERTAIN TO FILL THE ENGINE WITH OIL BEFORE STARTING. SEE PAGE 26.

Tools & Supplies Recommended:

Pliers (B&S)

14mm Wrench (Subaru)

SAE 30W HD Oil (B&S) or 10W-30 HD Oil (Subaru)

Rags

Suitable Oil Receptacle

NOTE: Drain the oil when the Engine is warm. Warm oil drains quickly and completely.

1. Position a suitable oil receptacle under the Engine Oil Drain located on the left side of the Engine.

2. Remove the Engine oil Fill Cap (Figure 1b, page 10 for the B&S) or Figure 40 for the Subaru Engine.

3. - For the B&S Engine, remove the Engine Oil Drain Extension Cap counterclockwise using Pliers (Figure 40).

- For the Subaru Engine, remove the Oil Drain Plug using a 14mm Wrench (Figure 40).

4. Allow the used oil to drain completely, then reinstall the Drain Extension Cap or Drain Plug and tighten

securely.

5. Replace the recommended Engine oil. See page 26.

6. Reattach the Spark Plug Wire.

NOTE: Be sure to use environmentally safe disposal procedures in the disposing of the used oil.
