A

Digital audio input terminals

These terminals input digital audio into the D-02.. Connect these
terminals to the corresponding terminals on a digital source
device (P-01, P-02, P-03 or P-05, etc.).

Use commercially-available cables for the following
connections.

XLR: Use balanced XLR digital audio cables

RCA: Use RCA coaxial digital cables

OPTICAL: Use optical digital cables

i.LINK (AUDIO): Use S400-compatible 6-pin or 4-pin i.LINK

cables (IEEE 1394 cable)

< The i.LINK (AUDIO) terminals are combined input and output

cable interfaces. You do not need to be concerned with
distinguishing between inputs and outputs.

< The i.LINK terminals are equipped with 6-pin and 4-pin

connectors. Use whichever fits the cable being connected.

When connecting multiple devices via i.LINK cable, use both

terminals. (Refer to page 9 regarding i.LINK cable connections.)

< If you connect this unit with others by i.LINK cable, the i.LINK

remote function can be used even when a different input
connector is in use (see page 15).

< The XLR connectors are Dual AES terminals. If your digital device

supports Dual AES, use two XLR cables to connect XLR 1 (L) on
this unit to the L terminal on the digital device and the XLR 2 (R)
terminal to the R terminal on the digital device.

B

Analog audio output terminals (LINE OUT)

Outputs analog audio signals.
Use two commercially-available balanced XLR cables to connect
these XLR terminals to an amplifier.

If the amplifier is not equipped with XLR audio input terminals,
use two commercially-available RCA audio cables for making
connections.

C

Word sync input/output terminals (WORD

SYNC)

Outputs/inputs a synchronizing WORD clock signal.

To use a master clock generator, connect its WORD SYNC OUT to
the WORD SYNC IN of this unit.
When inputting a 10MHz oscillator signal, connect the oscillator
output to the 10MHz IN connector.

Select the WORD SYNC connector using the clock settings (page
13).

Connect the word sync output (WORD SYNC OUT) to the WORD
SYNC IN connector on the digital audio signal source device.
Use a commercially-available BNC coaxial digital cable to connect
them (WORD SYNC IN: 75 Ω, 10MHz IN: 50 Ω).

D

GND terminal

Using a ground connector to connect with a D/A converter,
amplifier or other equipment might improve the sound quality.
These connections should run from chassis lug to chassis lug on
the back of each unit only. Do not run a ground wire to any type
of surge protector, wall outlet or power grounding device.

< Note that this is not an electrical safety ground (earth).

E

USB port

Use this to connect with a computer USB port in order to input
streaming audio in the digital domain from your PC.
Use a commercially-available USB cable for connection.
This unit’s USB connector is USB-B type.

F

Power cord connector

Connect the power cord to the power cord receptacle.
After all other connections are complete, connect the power
cord's plug to the AC wall socket.

Do not use any power cords other than the one included with

this unit or a power cord specified by ESOTERIC. Use of other
power cords could result in fire or electric shock.

Unplug the power cord when you are not going to use the unit

for several weeks.

Esoteric uses Esoteric MEXCEL stress-free 7N cable as a
reference. The following items are available in the Esoteric
MEXCEL cable series.
