5 Heart Rate Training

When setting up the HR programs the MESSAGE DISPLAY will ask you to enter your age to calculate

your target heart rate and display it on the MESSAGE DISPLAY. Target Heart Rate is calculated as 70% of

your theoretical maximum heart rate determined by your age using the following formula: (220 BPM -

Age)

∗70%. For example, the target heart rate for a 40-year-old user would be 126 BPM [(220-40)∗70%].

At this point you can change your target heart rate with the +/- Keys and then press ENTER to accept.

The minimum allowed target heart rate is 80 BPM and the maximum target heart rate is (220-Age).

Heart Rate is detected when the handlebar sensors are gripped or through a heart rate transmitter

across your chest. Good heart rate readings depend on the contact skin being slightly moist, whether it

be your hands gripping the sensors or the contact point on your chest. (Wear the chest transmitter with

the logo facing out.)

Note: The HR programs may require the use of a heart rate transmitter chest strap.

Constant HR:
The CONSTANT HR workout is programmed to help you maintain a calculated target heart rate by auto-

matically changing the level intensity during your workout.

This program is an easy way to keep you from becoming lazy during your workout. It is also a good

program to make sure that you are not working too hard during a recovery ride.
