PROCEDURE

1. Turn the engine OFF.

2. Perform the

Alternator Rotor Removal

procedure.

3. Perform the

Alternator Stator Removal

procedure.

See Figure F.22 for steps 4 - 9.

4. Turn off the fuel at the fuel bowl and remove

the fuel line. Plug the line to prevent spillage.

5. Remove the fuel return line from the top of the

fuel tank (diesel engine only).

6. With the 9/16" wrench, remove the four nuts,

bolts, and washers that mount the fuel tank to
the rails.

7. Carefully remove the fuel tank.

NOTE: At reassembly, the fuel line may have to
be purged. See the

Maintenance section (Diesel

only).

8. With the 3/4" wrench, remove the copper

strap/reed switch assembly from the negative
output terminal. Clear the strap.

9. With the 3/4" wrench, remove the cable from

the positive output terminal.
