Remote Maintenance by Telnet (mshell)

Operation Flow

The following is a sample procedure in using Telnet.

Limitation
Only one person at a time can be logged on to do remote maintenance.

1

Using the IP address or host name of the printer, start telnet.

% telnet IP_address

In order to use the host name instead of the IP address, you must write it to the /etc/hosts

file.

2

Enter the password.

The factory default is “password”.

3

Enter a command.

4

Finish telnet.

msh> logout

When the configuration is revised, a confirmation message requests whether or not the
changes should be saved.

5

Enter “yes” to save the changes, and press {Enter}.

If you do not want to save the changes, enter “no” and press {Enter}. If you want to

make additional changes, enter “return” at the command line, and press {Enter}.

If the “Can not write NVRAM information” message appears, the changes are not saved.

Repeat the steps above.

The Network Interface Card is reset automatically when the settings are changed.

When the Network Interface Card is reset, the active print job which has already been

sent to the printer, will finish printing. However, jobs that have not been sent yet will be
cancelled.

You can view the printer status and configure the Network Interface Card using telnet. You
should specify a password so that only the network administrator, or a person having network
administrator privileges, can use remote maintenance (mshell).
