Changing the Layer of a Window

What is a Layer?

The layer of a window determines whether it appears ‘in

front of’ or ‘behind’ other windows. Only one window
can exist on a given layer. A layer can also be known as a
Z Order.

Layers are identified by a number; the higher the number,
the further forward the window is. For example, a
window on layer 3 would appear in front of a window on
layer 2, but behind a window on layer 4.

NOTE:

The maximum number of windows allowed within a

scene is dependant the VN-QUANTUM hardware. Broadly the
absolute maximum is 64 windows arranged as an 8x8 array on a
single output channel. Check the VN-QUANTUM User
Guide for further details.

To see the current layer number of a window, place the
mouse pointer over the window in the palette. A pop-up
box will appear showing the window number, its current
layer and source type.
