Control of External Devices

Enabling Serial Control

To enable external devices to be controlled they will need
to be connected to the ‘Data TX’ output of one of the
computer’s serial (RS-232) ports.

These ports are usually identified as COM

x

, where

x

is a

number from 1 to 4 (

e.g.

COM2). You must ensure that the

appropriate serial port is configured correctly, by
following the instructions on pages 36 and 40.

Control Options

Serial data strings can be included within scenes (see
page 71). In a scene, three strings can be transmitted:

••

Pre

(as soon as the scene is selected but not yet fully

displayed);

••

Post

(when the scene display is fully complete);

••

Exit

(when another scene is selected but before the Pre

commands of the new scene).

These commands can be used to control external source
switchers or other RS-232 controllable devices.
