integrity is more important than copy process speed or array capacity. For a functional overview of
XP Business Copy, see “

XP Business Copy

Use XP Business Copy to maintain array-internal copies of all user data on the array for data on open
systems such as UNIX and PC servers. XP Business Copy creates a pair of P-VOL and S-VOL, both of
which are logical volumes in the same array or in externally attached storage. Pairs that XP Business
Copy creates are called XP Business Copy pairs.

RAID-protected S-VOLs are created within the same array as the P-VOL. Use XP Business Copy to
create up to three S-VOLs for a P-VOL. Using XP Business Copy with External Storage XP, you can
use external volumes to create XP Business Copy pairs.

Unlike the XP Snapshot pair's S-VOL, all P-VOL data is copied to the XP Business Copy pair's S-VOL.
Therefore, the capacity of the XP Business Copy pair's P-VOL and S-VOL is the same. In addition, XP
Business Copy's copy process takes longer because all P-VOL data is copied to the S-VOL.

As described previously, XP Business Copy requires larger array capacity and the copy process takes
longer compared to XP Snapshot. However, when a failure disables access to one of the pair's
volumes, the array can continue to operate using data stored in the other volume because the same
data is stored in the P-VOL and S-VOL. HP recommends using XP Business Copy when data integrity
is more important than copy process speed or array capacity. For more information, see the HP
StorageWorks XP Business Copy user guide for the XP12000/XP10000/SVS200
