Use the following instructions to connect cables from the expander card to the backplane for twelve 3.5-inch
hard disk drives:

1. For hard disk drive 0 to hard disk drive 3, use a mini-SAS to mini-SAS signal cable and connect the

mini-SAS connector

on one end of the cable to the connector 3 on the expander card. Then, connect

the mini-SAS connector on the other end of the cable to the mini-SAS ports 0-3 on the backplane
for twelve 3.5-inch hard disk drives.

2. For hard disk drive 4 to hard disk drive 7, use a mini-SAS to mini-SAS signal cable and connect the

mini-SAS connector

on one end of the cable to the connector 4 on the expander card. Then, connect

the mini-SAS connector on the other end of the cable to the mini-SAS ports 4-7 on the backplane
for twelve 3.5-inch hard disk drives.

3. For hard disk drive 8 to hard disk drive 11, use a mini-SAS to mini-SAS signal cable and connect the

mini-SAS connector

on one end of the cable to the connector 5 on the expander card. Then, connect

the mini-SAS connector on the other end of the cable to the mini-SAS ports 8-11 on the backplane
for twelve 3.5-inch hard disk drives.

Connecting cables from the system board to the backplane

Your server has two SAS connectors on the system board to support up to eight hard disk drives.

If you connect the mini-SAS to mini-SAS signal cables from the system board to the backplane, you can
configure RAID for the hard disk drives using the functions of the ThinkServer RAID 300 (also known as the
onboard SAS software RAID).

Use the following instructions to connect cables from the system board to the backplane:

1. For hard disk drive 0 to hard disk drive 3, use a mini-SAS to mini-SAS signal cable and connect the

mini-SAS connector on one end of the cable to the SAS connector 0-3 on the system board. Then,
