Putting into operation

This section describes the installation of the Melting Point M-565 and gives instructions for initial start-
up.

NOTE
Inspect the instrument for damage during unpacking. If necessary, prepare a status report imme-
diately to inform the postal company, railway company, or transport company. Keep the original
packaging for future transport.

5 .1

Installation site

Place the instrument on a stable, horizontal surface adequate for the maximum product dimensions.
It is advisable to place the instrument in a fume hood due to the fact that it will be used to measure
chemical substances. For safety reasons and to ensure sufficient cooling in the electronic compart-
ment, of the unit must be placed at least 30 cm away from rear walls or other objects. No containers,
chemicals, or other appliances should be placed behind the unit.

NOTE
Do not expose the instrument to direct sunlight or very high illumination. This could influence the
automatic detection process.

General hazards arise from:
• Mixtures of unknown composition or contaminations
• Combustible gases or solvent vapors in the immediate vicinity of the unit
• Damaged glass components
• Insufficient distance from back of the unit to the wall
• Burning by touching hot parts of the heater

• Unpack the instrument and place it on a table. Remove the packing, and make sure that the
