6. External I/O

6.1 Set Points

The XC880A provides 3 standard set point outputs, which may be used to

activate external devices such as relays and lights, or provide signals to external
controllers (PLC), which use TTL (0-5V) logic levels. The activation of a given
set point will differ depending on the set point mode being used.

6.1.1 Setup

The set point mode and configuration settings are accessed through the

keyboard in the following manner.

1. Press ‘SHIFT’ key followed by numeric ‘3’. This enters the set point

configuration mode. The currently chosen set point mode will be
displayed.

2. Press the ‘SCALE SELECT’ key to scroll through the mode choices.

‘ENTER’ to accept the currently displayed choice. The possible
settings are:

a. OFF – Set points disabled.

b. CUT – Cutoff mode activates a given external set point when the

weight reaches its preset value.

c. CMP – Comparator mode activates set points as the weight relates

to the preset weight window. The ‘check-weigher’ LEDs on the
keyboard will be updated to reflect the state of the set points
whether or not the external signals are being used.

3. The XC880A now prompts to identify the set point mode. Use SCALE

SELECT to scroll through and ENTER to select:

a. GROSS WEIGHT – This setting will use the gross weight to

determine the state of the set point outputs. After selecting this
mode, a prompt will request confirmation of the weighing
units.

b. NET WEIGHT – With this setting, the set points are updated

using the net weight. Outputs will be deactivated if not
counting. After selecting this mode, a prompt will request
confirmation of the weighing units.

c. QUANTITY – With this setting the set points are updated

using the count quantity.

4. The XC880A now prompts for the individual set point values. Input a

numeric value for the current set point and press ‘ENTER’. Repeat
above for all set points. Note that all set point configuration settings
are stored in system ‘FLASH’ to avoid loss on power down.

5. The scale now prompts with ‘SP MOTION?.’
