XC880A OWNERS MANUAL

10.1 Serial FLASH Memory

The XC880A may be equipped with 4MB of serial FLASH memory to

store up to 3000 part number files, 3000 transaction records, and up to 64 address
files. The FLASH card also holds all format data for printing barcode labels,
including AIAG, shipping and inventory labels. This data is loaded to the serial
FLASH at the factory, or using a utility program and is required for any system
equipped with a barcode label printer.

This option can be installed on any standard XC880A without special

programming. Follow the procedure below to install the 4MB serial FLASH card.

1. Disconnect power from the unit. Remove 4 screws securing the

front keyboard bezel.

2. Locate the 10 pin female header marked J22 on the main board,

and the 10 pin male header marked J1 on the serial FLASH card.

3. Carefully insert the FLASH card into the header making sure the

mounting holes line up with the standoffs on the main board.
Secure the FLASH card onto the standoffs with (2) 4-40 x ¼”
screws.

4. Replace the front bezel, and power up the unit. The XC880A will

go through its power up routine normally. If the FLASH card is
installed and working properly, the alphanumeric display will read
SFLASH = 4MB. If this message is not displayed, ensure that the
card is installed properly. If so, the memory card may be damaged
or defective.

Once installed, the serial FLASH card will store and retrieve data as

needed by the operating system. FLASH memory is non-volatile and requires no
external battery to retain its data. This card can be exchanged between different
XC880A systems and will retain all data previously stored.
