1.2.1. Configure Network

This webpage displays the current network settings. Take care when changing
these as it may lead to the Berkshire 10K ipPBX becoming unreachable and for the
attached telephones to lose connection.

The Berkshire 10K ipPBX supports VLANs. These can separate the telephony traffic
from other data on the ethernet network and give the telephony traffic priority
through ethernet switches. This can be useful in very heavily used networks as it
means that calls are unaffected by data overloads. The address for web
administration is unaffected by the enabling of VLANs but the attached Berkshire
5000 telephones need to be rebooted for them to be automatically configured with
the new VLAN network settings.

The “Forwarded Public IP Address” field is used when the Berkshire 10K ipPBX is
behind a firewall and there are users of remote Berkshire 5000 telephones such as
home workers. The firewall must be configured such that traffic addressed to udp
port 5060 of the public IP address of the firewall is forwarded on to udp port 5060 of
the IP address of the Berkshire 10K ipPBX. The “Forwarded Public IP Address” field
instructs remote Berkshire 5000 telephones to communicate via the firewall rather
than trying to connect directly to the ipPBX.
