10.2 Using Patient Operated Wheel Locks

1.

Ensure the wheelchair is not moving before engaging the wheel

locks.

2.

Depending on the model of wheel lock installed on the wheelchair,

perform one of the following:

Push-to-Lock - To engage, push the wheel lock handle

forward.

Pull-to-Lock - To engage, pull the wheel lock handle backward.

3.

Disengage the wheel locks by reversing STEP 2.

After any adjustments, repair or service and before use,
make sure all attaching hardware is tightened securely.
Otherwise injury or damage may occur.

WARNING

DO NOT attempt to stop a moving wheelchair with
wheel locks. Wheel locks are not brakes.

Position wheelchair on a flat, level surface to perform
this procedure.

Unlocked Position

Wheel Lock

Push wheel lock handle forward away from the tire to
engage wheel lock

Locked Position

Pull wheel lock handle toward
the tire to disengage wheel lock

Push-To-Lock

Pull-To-Lock

Pull wheel lock handle toward the tire to engage wheel lock

Unlocked Position

Wheel Lock

Push wheel lock handle away from
the tire to disengage wheel lock
