Installing Metro Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 modules and connecting equipment

Connecting a PC or terminal to the switch

Connect a PC or terminal to the console port to use Device Manager or the
command line interface (CLI) to customize your Metro Ethernet Routing
Switch 8600 configuration (for example, by editing IP parameters). To
establish a local CLI or Device Manager session, you must connect a PC or
a VT-100 terminal to the console port on the CPU module.

Prerequisites

You need a serial console cable with a 9-pin receptacle connector.

Turn on and configure the terminal or a communications port on the

Insert the 9-pin receptacle end of the console cable into the console
connector on the CPU module.

Attach the 9-pin plug end of the cable to the serial communications
port on the back of the PC or terminal.
