CJ Oven Care and Use Manual

Self-Cleaning the Ovens

Your new oven features two pyrolytic self-cleaning ovens.
When using the CLEAN mode, the oven reaches a
high temperature that burns off the food soil.
• Only one oven at a time can be set to self clean.
• It is common to see smoke and/or an occasional

flame-up during the CLEAN cycle, depending on
the content and amount of soil remaining in the oven.
If a flame persists, turn off the oven and allow it to
cool before opening the door to wipe up the
excessive food soil.

Self Cleaning

IMPORTANT: Be sure to let the
inside window glass in the oven door
cool completely before wiping up any
ash left from the clean cycle.

1. When oven is cold, remove all utensils, bakeware

and oven rack.

2. If oven rack is left in the oven during the Self Clean

cycle, it will permanently lose the shiny finish and
change to a dull dark finish. See the Oven Cleaning
Chart for proper care, Page 58.

3. To remove the Jet Plate, grasp and lift up the

front tabs on the Jet Plate and pull it forward
and out. Set the Jet Plate aside top rack
supports.
Moving Jet Plate above top rack position
will help prevent the surface roughness created by
the high temperatures.

4. Wipe up any soft soil spills and grease with paper

towels.

NOTE: Due to the high temperatures used for
self-cleaning, the oven may develop fine lines or
surface roughness. This does not affect either the
cooking or the cleaning performance of the oven.

Preparing the Upper Oven for Self Clean

• The oven light will not turn on when the oven is set

for a clean cycle.

Be sure the light is turned off on the control panel

and the bulb and glass cover are in place, see
Page 61.

Heat and odors are normal during the self-cleaning

cycle. Keep the kitchen well ventilated. During the
first several times the oven is in the Self Clean mode,
it is normal that the odors are more intense. This
will lessen with use.

5. Put Jet Plate back in oven above the upper rack

supports.

6. Hand clean the oven window using a soapy sponge

or a detergent-filled S.O.S. pad. Do not rub the
mesh gasket on door
.

7. See Page 57 for setting Self Clean mode.
After Self Clean

• After Self Clean has completed and the oven

temperature drops to a safe temperature, the
automatic door lock will release and the door can
be opened.

• After Self Clean, some gray ash remains inside the

oven. It is easily removed with a damp sponge or
cloth. When the oven is cold, lift out the Jet Plate
and wipe off the Jet Plate and oven cavity. Place the
Jet Plate in the oven bottom and replace oven rack.

Hand-clean front frame.

Hand-clean around edge.
