10. Appendix B: Modem Support

Dial-up and leased line modems are supported in the MCN Remote Comparator
Display system. A modem cable wiring list is provided in the HIB’s hardware
reference manual, reference 2.

Note: The PCLTA card cannot be used in dial-up or leased line applications.

The following modems have been tested and verified to operate properly with
the HIB and with MCNRCD:

Practical Peripherals PM336MT II 33600 Modem

Practical Peripherals PM288MT II 28800 Modem

Practical Peripherals PM144MT II 14400 Modem

The following modem(s) have been tested and are not recommended:

** Note: Our testing has shown that USR Model 336 Sportster modems will not
connect to modems running at 14400 baud! Also, see the USRSP336 .INI and
USRSP336.HIB files for external switch options if connecting to other modems.

CTI Products Inc. can provide modems for dial-up or leased line applications.

10.1 Modem Initialization

When the MCNRCD program finds a dialing string in the MSF file, it will
automatically initialize the modem using the commands specified in the
MODEM.INI file and then dial the number in the MSF file.

The dialing string for the number you wish to dial must be programmed into the
MCN Screen File or specified at start up with the /D:DialingString option. This
dialing string contains the phone number of the modem at the HIB location as
well as any special dialing codes required by your phone system.

The format of the dialing string is the following: ATDTdialstring

where ATDT is the command string header (this tells the modem to dial a phone
number) and dialstring is the actual phone number to be dialed. If the ATDT is
omitted from the dialing string, the modem will not successfully dial the number.
