1.

Open the cover of the power supply.

2.

Connect the laptop computer via the RS-232 cable to the TEST
port.

3.

Run the Diagnostics Program after your system is disconnected.
Issue the WA command and verify that the sensor responds with a
data string starting with WA. If it does not respond at all, check all
the connections.

4.

Lower the wind mast or tower and put the verifier over the sensor.
The verifier must be completely covered by the cloth bag, since
ambient airflow may effect the sensor readings.

5.

Issue the WATE test in the Diagnostics Program. The sensor must
respond with:

WATE Test Passed.

6.

Replace the sensor if it has failed this test.

7.

Remove the verifier from the sensor and raise the wind mast or
tower.

8.

Issue two more WA commands and make sure they have P status
and the reported wind speed and direction values are reasonable
when compared to the estimated actual condition.

9.

Disconnect the laptop. This automatically returns the sensor into
the normal operating mode. Close the power supply door.

Corrective Maintenance

The following flow charts may be used to diagnose problems with the
wind system.

If the sensor is not responding to the system polls, start with the flow
chart in

Figure 20 on page 70

.

CAUTION

This procedure must be performed on a relatively calm day when it is
safe to lower the wind mast or tower.

CAUTION

It is very important that the wind sensor be taken off line during this
entire procedure or else erroneous wind speeds will be reported into
the your system.
