Custom Setting d4: Long Exp. NR

This option controls whether photographs taken
at shutter speeds slower than about ½

s are

processed to reduce “noise” (randomly-spaced,
brightly-col ored pix els that appear at slow shut-
ter speeds, particularly in shad

ows). Highlight

d4 Long Exp. NR in the second level of the CSM
menu (

172) and press the multi selector to the

right. Press the multi selector up or down to high-
light an option, then press to the right to make a
selection.

Noise reduction takes effect at shut ter speeds of
about ½ s or slow er. Time re quired to process
images more than dou bles. During pro cess ing,

blinks in shut

ter-speed and aper-

ture dis plays. Next photo can be taken when

is no longer dis played.

Noise reduction off; camera functions normally.

Playback

If photographs are played back while they are being processed to reduce noise, the
im age that is dis played in the monitor may not show the effects of noise reduction.

The Memory Buffer

The maximum number of shots that can be stored in the memory buffer when noise
reduction is on is as follows:
• Compressed NEF + JPEG Fine: 14

• Uncompressed NEF + JPEG Fine: 15

• Compressed NEF + JPEG Normal: 14

• Uncompressed NEF + JPEG Normal: 15

• Compressed NEF + JPEG Basic: 14

• Uncompressed NEF + JPEG Basic: 15

• Compressed NEF (RAW): 15

• Uncompressed NEF (RAW): 16

• TIFF (RGB): 15

• JPEG Fine: 30

• JPEG Normal: 30

• JPEG Basic: 30
