Determining the status of a fan

Complete the following steps to determine the status of a fan.

1. Check the LED indicators on the fan (refer to

Figure 10

). The LED patterns may temporarily

change during POST and other diagnostic tests; for information about how to interpret the LED
patterns, refer to

Table 15

. The Brocade VDX 8770-4 has up to two fans. Be sure to check each

module.

2. Check the fan status using the show environment fan {rbridge-id rbridge-id | all} command.

See

Table 12

for possible results from this command. The RPM of each fan is also provided. If

a fan displays absent or faulty, contact the Brocade VDX 8770-4 supplier to order replacement
parts. Both physically absent or faulty could also be the result of the fan not being properly
seated.
You can also use the show system command.

Figure 10

shows a fan unit.

ALM

No light
(LED is off)

The power supply has not failed.

No action required.

Steady amber

The power supply has failed.

Replace the power supply.
