Control channel strip signal flow in the Mixer
Route audio via insert effects
When a plug-in is inserted directly into a channel strip, it is termed an insert effect. The channel
strip’s entire signal is processed by the effect plug-in. This behavior is suitable for equalizers or
dynamic effects, such as compressors. If you have enough processing capacity, you can use up to
15 insert effects on each channel strip.
When multiple effect plug-ins are routed to a channel strip via inserts, they are said to be routed
in series. In this type of configuration, the output of one effect is added to the incoming signal
and becomes the input of the next effect in the chain. The image below illustrates this process.
On this channel strip, the effect
plug-ins (Compressor, Channel EQ,
Chorus) are routed in series.
