Text basics

You can work with text in a word processing document or in a text frame. In
either case, you use the same techniques, tools, and commands to enter and
format the text.

Creating a word processing document or frame

About the word processing window

When you open a word processing document, you see the word processing
menu bar, button bar, text ruler, page guides, and the insertion point. The
insertion point is a short, blinking vertical line that shows where text appears
when you type or insert text.

Choose Index from the Help menu and type the first few letters of the entry. Double-click the
entry and then double-click a topic.

then click OK.

Create a text frame

Select the text tool

menu if it isn’t visible). Then,
drag the I-beam pointer
diagonally in the working area
of the document to draw a text
frame, and begin typing.

document, hold down the Alt
key as you draw the frame.)
