Residual hazards - ECSxE supply module

Protection of persons
ƒ Before working on the supply module, check that no voltage is applied to the power

terminals
– because the power terminals +UG, -UG, BR0 and BR1 carry hazardous voltages for

at least 3 minutes after mains disconnection.

ƒ The heatsink has an operating temperature of > 70 °C:

– Direct skin contact with the heatsink results in burnings.

ƒ The leakage current to PE is > 3.5 mA AC or > 10 mA DC. Therefore, two PE

connections are installed for protective reasons.
– Comply with the requirements of EN 50178 for high leakage currents!

ƒ For operation of the supply module on an earth-leakage circuit breaker:

– The supply modules are internally equipped with a mains rectifier. In the case of a

short circuit to frame, a non-pulsating DC residual current can prevent AC

-sensitive or pulsating DC-sensitive earth-leakage circuit breakers from being

tripped and thus neutralize the protective function for the whole equipment

operated on this earth-leakage circuit breaker.

Protection of devices
ƒ All pluggable terminals must only be connected or disconnected when no voltage is

applied!

ƒ The power terminals +UG, -UG and PE are not protected against polarity reversal.

– Observe the polarity when wiring the power terminals!
