Test Marker Function

70. Verify overhead clearance. Marker height during fold

and unfold could be over 14 feet (4.3 m). Some
electric power lines are lower than this height. In the
event of a malfunction or misconfiguration, the
marker arms could be completely unfolded at full
vertical. This could strike higher electric lines and/or
cause roof or ceiling damage if working indoors.

Independent Marker Testing

71. Slowly Retract the left marker circuit. Set circuit to

Neutral when the arms are in the transport carrier.

72. Slowly Extend the left marker circuit. Retract when

the disc touches the ground. Set circuit to Neutral
when arm is in transport carrier.

73. Slowly Retract the right marker circuit. Set circuit to

Neutral when the arms are in the transport carrier.

74. Slowly Extend the right marker circuit. Retract when

the disc touches the ground. Set circuit to Neutral
when arm is in transport carrier.

75. Repeat step 72 and step 74 once more, taking note

of the cycle times. A complete unfold/fold cycle for
each side should take approximately 15 seconds,
with fold taking slightly longer than unfold. If the fold
or unfold speeds are more than 3 seconds faster or
more than 6 seconds slower, see “Independent
Marker Speed”
on page 16.

Sequenced Marker Testing

76. Slowly Retract the sequenced marker circuit. Only

one marker side folds at a time.

77. When the first marker has completely folded, move

the circuit lever to Extend for a few seconds (even
through the other marker is already unfolded). This
alternates the sequence valve to the other side.
Slowly Retract the circuit.

78. Set the circuit to Extend. This unfolds the previous

side. Observe the unfolding. Then Retract until that
side is folded.

79. Set the circuit to Extend. This unfolds the previous

side. Observe the unfolding. Then Retract until that
side is folded. Set circuit to Neutral.

80. Repeat step 78 and step 79 once more, taking note

of the cycle time. A complete unfold/fold cycle for
each side should take approximately 15 seconds,
with fold taking slightly longer than unfold. If the fold
or unfold speeds are more than 3 seconds faster or
more than 6 seconds slower, see “Dual Marker
Speed Adjustment”
on page 16.

Electrocution Hazard:
If the markers contacts a power line, lethal voltage may be
present on all metal parts. At higher voltage, the markers does
not need to be in line contact for the hazard to exist. Maintain
at least 10 foot (3 m) clearance.

Pinch, Crush and Overhead Hazards:
Clear all persons from the vicinity of both sides of the markers.
There are multiple points in the mechanisms which could
cause severe pinching or crushing. The raised arms are heavy
and also move downward with considerable hydraulic force.
With the optional sequence valve, the marker side that initially
folds is uncertain.

Equipment Damage Risk:
Be prepared to stop the fold if there is any indication of
malfunction. If there is any binding, slamming or sudden
movement, stop and investigate. The cylinders are powerful
enough to cause significant damage if the system is
misconfigured.
