Charge and Bleed

Prepare Cylinders

70. Support the rod ends of the cylinders so that upon

full rod extension, the clevis cannot strike any marker
components. Set buckets or other oil collection
containers under both marker base ends.

Refer to Figure 27 (which depicts the valve set to Fold)
71. At the front of the drill tongue, set the fold/marker

selector valve to Markers {handle forward}).

72. Except for an observer wearing appropriate safety

equipment, clear all persons from the vicinity of both
marker cylinders.

73. Connect the drill fold/marker circuit to a hydraulic

power source. Set remote lever controls to Neutral.
Engage hydraulic power.

Bleed Sides

Note: Which marker side is initially active is random,

depending on the internal state of the sequence
valve.

74. Slowly Extend the remote circuit for Fold/Markers.

When oil seepage is observed at the marker cylinder
base end connection, set the circuit to Neutral and
secure the hose at the JIC fitting.

75. Slowly Extend the remote circuit for Fold/Markers.

Hold until the cylinder rod is fully extended. Set the
circuit to Neutral.

76. Crack (loosen) the hose/elbow JIC connection at the

rod end of the same cylinder. Slowly Retract the
circuit. When seepage is observed at the rod end
connection, set the circuit to Neutral and secure the
hose fitting.

77. Resume a Retract operation to fully retract the rod,

and toggle the internal state of the sequence valve.
The next Extend operation activates the other
marker side.

78. Repeat step 73 through step 77 for the other marker

side.

High Pressure Fluid Hazard:
System bleed requires intentional hydraulic leaks. Escaping
fluid under pressure can have sufficient pressure to penetrate
the skin causing serious injury. Use a piece of paper or
cardboard, NOT BODY PARTS, to check for leaks. Wear
protective gloves and safety glasses or goggles when working
with hydraulic systems. If an accident occurs, seek immediate
medical attention from a physician familiar with this type of
injury.
