Setting Ground Drives
On 1625AH planters, the seed meters are driven by the
gauge wheels, whenever the planter is lowered and in
motion.
Refer to Figure 3
Each ground drive assembly has two drive segments
that are user adjustable:
1.
Range: (sprocket combination)
2.
Transmission: (sprocket combination)
For a specific row-spacing, meter and seed, the starting
sprocket settings for all three drives are found in the
charts beginning on page 24 or 63.
Sprocket pairings are identified in the charts both by
sprocket size and by which sprocket is mounted on which
shaft (driving/driven).
Sprockets are sized by tooth count, stamped on the
sprocket. Unused sprockets are stored on trees at or
near the drive assembly.
The DRIVING sprocket on any chain is the one closer to
the gauge wheel (lower in the assembly).
The DRIVEN sprocket on any chain is the one further
from the gauge wheel (higher in the assembly).
For All Ground Drive Adjustments
Steps:
a.
Unfold the planter. Raise the planter. Install lift-assist
cylinder locks.
b.
Rotate each gauge wheel. Check that seed meters,
seed tubes and drives are working properly and are
clear of debris and obstructions.
c.
Shut off the tractor.
d.
Check gauge wheel tire condition. Worn tires cause
irregular seeding. Check tire pressure, per “Tire
Inflation Chart” in the planter Operator manual.
e.
Install sprockets. Re-check smooth drive system
operation.
Population and Equipment Wear Risks:
Perform identical setups on each of the two ground drives.
Any differences can cause unpredictable seed rate.
