11. How to sew four-thread safety stitch

The 4-thread safety stitch is sewn with two needles, two loopers and a spreader.

( 1 ) Convert right looper into spreader (see page 14)

( 2 ) Thread left looper (yellow path) (see page 15)

( 3 ) Thread chainstitch looper (purple path) (see page 12)

( 4 ) Thread right overedge needle (green path)

( 5 ) Thread chainstitch needle (blue path)

( 6 ) Correct thread tensions for 4-thread safety stitch

Be sure the threads are correctly threaded otherwise
proper tension cannot be obtained.

Set each tension dial to settings shown below and test sew on a sample of your fabric.

Adjust thread tensions to suit your fabric making reference to table below. Make adjustments in

increments of no greater than half a number at a time.

When left looper thread lies on

the underside of fabric.
