FREE MOTION WORK
Darning
Household linens, children’s clothes
and knit wear of all kinds can be re
paired with the darning stitch.
Procedure
• Trim ragged edges from area to be
darned. Center worn section in em
broidery hoops.
• Remove presser foot.
• Insert lifting plate under throat plate
as instructed on
page 46.
STITCH WIDTH: 0
NEEDLE POSITION: C
STRAIGHT STITCH THROAT PLATE
WITH LIFTING PLATE
STITCH LENGTH: ABOVE 20
Position work under needle and
lower presser bar to engage tension.
Hold needle thread loosely with left
hand, turn hand wheel over and
draw bobbin thread up through
fabric. Hold both thread ends and
lower needle into fabric.
Outline area to be darned with
running stitches for reinforcement.
Place stitches 34" from edge of open
area.
Stitch across opening, moving hoops
under needle at a slight angle from
lower left to upper right. Keep lines
of stitching closely spaced and even
in length.
