Changing the playback area

Press for at least
2 seconds.

Super Audio CDs include discs that have multiple areas containing,
for example, stereo (two-channel) and multichannel recordings, as
well as hybrid discs that have two layers with the second containing
CD data.
When stopped, press the stop (8) button for at least two seconds to
change the playback area.

When using the remote control, press the PLAY AREA button when
playback is stopped.

o

For hybrid discs, you can use the LAYER setting to set whether to
use the Super Audio CD or CD layer for playback first (page 29).

o

Use the 2CH/MULTI button on the remote control to set whether
to load the multichannel or two-channel area when a Super Audio
CD that has both areas is loaded (page 24).

o

“SACD 2ch” appears when you select the two-channel area of a
Super Audio CD. “SACD Multi” appears when you select the multi-
channel area of a Super Audio CD. “CD Area” appears when the CD
layer of an SACD is selected.

The MULTI indicator appears when the multichannel area of a
Super Audio CD is selected.

Selecting 2CH/MULTI

When stopped, press the 2CH/MULTI button to switch between two-
channel and multichannel settings.

2ch (two-channel)

Two channels of audio are output.
With this setting, when a Super Audio CD with both multichannel
and two-channel areas is loaded, the two-channel area will be given
priority. The playback area can be changed after the disc has loaded.
(See “Changing the playback area” on page 24.)
If a multichannel source is played back, the audio will be downmixed
to front left and front right channels. (“D-MIX” will appear on the
display.)
Select this for stereo playback.

Multi (multichannel)

Select this when connecting a D/A converter and amplifier that sup-
port multichannel audio.
With this setting, when a Super Audio CD with both multichannel
and two-channel areas is loaded, the multichannel area will be given
priority. The playback area can be changed after the disc has loaded.
(See “Changing the playback area” on page 24.)
If a two-channel source is played back, the audio will be output from
the front left and front right channels.

o

This cannot be changed during playback. Stop playback before
switching.
