TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

If you have followed the instructions and are having difficulty operation the unit, locate the SYMPTOM in the left column below. Check
the corresponding POSSIBLE CAUSE and CORRECTIVE ACTION columns to locate and remedy the problem.

SYMPTOM

No power.

The power is on, but the DVD/VCR does
not work.

No picture.

No sound.

Sound is heard from only one speaker.

The playback picture is poor.

The DVD/VCR does not start playback.

On music CD - sound only comes from
front left and right speakers.
No sound from rear and center speakers.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

• Plug the power cord into the wall outlet securely.

• Insert a tape or disc. (See page E27 or E39)

• Set theTV’s video channel to 3 or 4.

• Select the appropriate video input mode on the

TV so the picture from the DVD/VCR appears on
the TV screen.

• Press [TV/VCR] on the remote control repeatedly

to choose VCR mode. “VCR” appears on the FL
display.

• Connect the video cable securely.

• Connect the video cable into the jack. (See page

E10.)

• Connect the 75 ohm coaxial cable into the jack.

(See page E10.)

• Connect the cord correctly. See “Basic TV

Connections” or “Audio/Video Connection” on page
E10.

• Turn on the TV.

• Load a playable disc. (Check the disc logo, type,

color system and regional code.) (See page E38.)

• Connect the audio cable securely.

• Select the correct function. (See page E20.)

• Connect the speaker wires firmly to the speaker

terminals. (See page E14.)

• Turn up the volume.

• Connect the speaker wires firmly to the speaker

terminals. (See page E14.)

• Clean the disc. (See page E38.)

• Clean video heads. (See page E65.)

• Use [Tracking] +/– for manual tracking adjustment

while tape is playing. (See page E29.)

• Load a playable disc. (Check the disc logo, type,

color system and regional code.) (See page E38.)

• Insert a tape or disc. (See page E27 or E39.)

• Load a playable disc. (Check the disc type, color

system, and regional code.) (See page E38.)

• Place the disc with the playback side down.

• Place the disc on the disc tray correctly inside the

guide.

• Clean the disc. (See page E38.)

• Cancel the parental lock function or change the

rating level. Reset it after play. (See page E59.)

• Press [SURROUND] repeatedly to select “Surr”,

“HALL” or “LIVE”. (See page E21.)

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• The power cord is disconnected.

• No tape is inserted.
• No disc is inserted.

• The video channel of the TV is not set to channel

3 or 4.

• The TV is not set to receive DVD/VCR signal

output.

• TV/VCR mode for DVD/VCR is set to TV.

• The video cable is not connected securely.

• The video cable or 75 ohm coaxial cable is not

connected.

• Video connection is not correct.

Note: S-Video/component out does not output the
VCR/tuner video signal. They are only for DVD
video output.

• The connected TV power is turned off.

• An unplayable disc is loaded.

• The audio cables are not connected securely.

• The wrong function is selected.

• Faulty speaker connections.

• Volume control is set to minimum.

• Faulty speaker connections.

• The disc is dirty.

• Tape heads are dirty.

• Tape is a rental or was recorded on another VCR.

• An unplayable disc is loaded.

• No tape is inserted.
• No disc is inserted.

• An unplayable disc is inserted.

• The disc is placed upside down.

• The disc is not placed within the guide.

• The disc is dirty.

• “PARENTAL” is set.

• Unit automatically sets 2.1 channel (Front left and

right speakers, and Subwoofer).
