How to Make a Custom Fiber Type

Note

You must select a test before you make a custom
fiber type, but you can use the fiber type in any
test that supports the category of the fiber.

On the TEST SETUP screen, tap Fiber Type, tap MORE, tap
Custom, then tap MANAGE.

On the MANAGE CUSTOM screen, tap the Create panel.

On the NEW CUSTOM FIBER screen, tap Enter New Fiber Name,
use the keyboard to enter a name, then tap DONE.

Select a Category for the fiber.

For each wavelength, tap the panels for the available settings,
then enter values for the settings. Table 16 gives descriptions
of the settings.

The default settings are typical values for the category of fiber
you selected.

When you have entered all necessary values, tap SAVE on the
NEW CUSTOM FIBER screen. The tester adds an asterisk (*) to
the start and end of the custom fiber name.

Description

Name

Enter a name for the custom fiber type.

Category

The category specifies the level of performance of
the fiber, such as the fiber’s attenuation and
bandwidth. Select the category that is applicable to
your custom fiber type.
OS: Categories for singlemode fibers
OM: Categories for multimode fibers
